Traffic Advisory: Golf Road Closed for Emergency Repair to Ensure Safety

The City of Turlock has closed a portion of Golf Road for some emergency road work that is needed to ensure the safety of residents.

Golf Road is expected to be closed between Greenway and East Glenwood avenues until April 15. The road will be closed 24 hours a day till April 15.

According City of Turlock Director of Development Services and City Engineer Mike Pitcock, the road was undermined when stormwater washed out the drain pipe on the northeast side of the embankment.

“We are concerned that a vehicle could cause a portion of the roadway to collapse and may, although unlikely, cause an accident,” said Pitcock.

The portion of Golf Road closed is a flyover, or overpass, that goes over Highway 99 between the Lander Avenue and Bradbury Road on and off ramps.

The City of Turlock first tried to place cones and signs to move motorists over, however Pitcock said those were stolen.

Now the City of Turlock will need to do the emergency road repair to ensure the road holds up and does not injure any citizens.

“While unlikely, we could not chance harm to our citizens and have we taken a course of action to eliminate that possibility,” said Pitcock.

Cost for the construction is unknown at this time, as the City of Turlock is still looking at the damage to define the scope of work, which will be put out to a bid.
