The City of Turlock will have several road closures in effect throughout Downtown on Aug. 8 for the first annual Turlock Criterium Bike Race.

The TEA Solar Cycling Classic will take place Aug. 8 beginning around 1:30 p.m. through the streets of beautiful Downtown Turlock.

Road closures will be in effect between 1 and 8:30 p.m. the day of the race, although there will be some pedestrian crossings.

Downtown roads that will be closed during the race include:

• Main Street between Lander Avenue and the Union Pacific Railroad tracks.
• Market Street between Main Street and S. Broadway.
• S. Broadway between Main Street and C Street.
• C Street between S. Broadway and First Street.
• First Street between C Street and Main Street.
• A Street between S. Broadway and First Street.
• B Street between S. Broadway and First Street.

The affected roads will be closed to all traffic during the event and detours will not be provided.

There will be designated pedestrian crossing locations throughout Downtown.

The TEA Solar Cycling Classic, which will consist of cyclists of several skill levels making multiple laps around the course, will be free for spectators.

Registration for the event is now open for cyclists looking to participate in one of the eight races that will happen throughout the day. Each event, other than the kids race which is free, is $35 for registration.

The race is an USA Cycling event and all rules. Riders must present a current USA Cycling license at registration.

The course is a five turn lap with one technical turn — approximately 160 degree corner — in turn one. Race will begin on W. Main Street, take a left onto Market Street, right onto Broadway Avenue, left onto C Street, left onto First Street, and left back onto W. Main Street.

There will be cash prizes ranging from $300 to $800 per race.
