Turlock Gospel Mission Meets Fundraising Goal, Will Complete Phase I of Homeless Shelter

The Turlock Gospel Mission has raised the necessary funds to complete Phase I of its long-awaited year-round emergency homeless shelter.

TGM broke ground on step one of the organization’s “Hope Lives Here” campaign on Jan. 29, but were about $65,000 short of the $500,000 needed to complete construction on Phase I.

TGM has now reached the $500,000 goal thanks to private donations from corporations, churches, and individuals.

Phase I of the shelter will build 55 beds for men, women, and children, along with restrooms with showers and a laundry.

“We have been very blessed with the giving thus far for Phase I, which will encompass the women, children and men's dorms, and laundry and shower facilities for our guests,” TGM Ministry Administrator Rhonda Boucher said in email.

Step one of the shelter is expected to be complete by October 2014, in order to provide shelter for the cold winter season.

TGM is still about $1.3 million short of the total cost of the complete project, which will include a full kitchen and dining area, as well as reception and storage area.

TGM has faith they will reach the $1.8 million goal to complete the entire project.

“We trust and pray the giving hearts in the community will continue to help homeless and hurting people find hope and restoration in Christ through this vital ministry!” said Boucher.
