TUSD Character Counts Students of the Month

Jonathan McCorkell|

Dutcher Middle School eighth graders Felisha Dias and Arianne Kisner are this month’s Turlock Unified School District’s Character Counts Students of the Month for the character trait of fairness.

Kisner has maintained a 3.75 GPA during the past year and a half at Dutcher Middle School. She is a member of the Orator’s Club and also plays violin in the school orchestra.

Her future goals include attending Pitman High School and then attending college to pursue a teaching credential. She would like to become an elementary school teacher, and would also like to work in the Peace Corps. Kisner’s hobbies include reading and studying about other cultures. Music is very important to her.

Kisner was a last minute fill-in for the student of the month, however she was equally as deserving as the original student, Neema Rashidi, who was scheduled to read the inspirational during Tuesday’s TUSD Board of Trustee’s meeting. Unfortunately, his flight from Iran was delayed due to weather conditions on the East Coast. He was visiting family during the winter break.

Dias is an active student who plays on the Dutcher Middle School softball team and has a lead role in the upcoming school drama production “Thoroughly Modern Millie.” Her future goals include attending Turlock High School next year, and although she is not sure where she wants to attend college she has hopes of becoming a veterinarian.

Dias’ teacher, Mrs. Cordell had high praise for her. “She has the ability to lead without dominating.

“She is always more than happy to volunteer to help out when I need her. She is an amazing singer and has a lead in our current musical, 'Thoroughly Modern Millie, Jr.' She is kind and considerate to all her peers and teachers,” she said.
