The Turlock City Arts Commission will be presenting the annual traveling exhibition Yosemite Renaissance in Turlock from November 10 – December 31. The exhibition will be on view in the Turlock City Gallery, inside City Hall at 156 S. Broadway. The gallery is open to the public during regular City Hall hours, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and also some evenings during public meetings; call the Turlock City Arts Commission at 668-5599, x4615 for more information.
For the exhibition’s premier in Yosemite National Park, 38 pieces were selected from among the near-record number of 465 entries to this annual competition. Chella, one of this region’s best known landscape painters, had two pieces accepted by the jurors, and one received a third place $500 cash award.
The traveling exhibition includes paintings, watercolors, prints, sculpture, ceramics, photographs, and textile pieces, all depicting aspects of Yosemite National Park and the surrounding Sierra region. While most of the artists represented in the show live and work in California, works by artists from across the United States are also included. One international entry from Israel was accepted this year as well.
The Turlock presentation of Yosemite Renaissance XXIII is the final leg of a year-long tour. Prior to this, the exhibition has been seen in Yosemite National Park, Mariposa, Hanford and Redwood City.
