The Turlock Gospel Mission (TGM) announced it will seek to provide overnight winter shelter to women and children once again this year.The anticipated start date is Sunday November 15, 2009, continuing through April 4, 2010. TGM is working with local churches, civic clubs, and private citizens to provide a safe place to stay overnight for women & children in need. Warm meals, a biblical message of hope and shelter will be provided each night during the coldest part of Turlock
TGM offered Winter Relief to families last year from December 14-April 5. Executive Director Jeff Woods said, “Last winter we served 2,900 evening meals for men, women and children and provided 684 overnight accommodations for 32 unduplicated women and children. With the economy being what it is, the need may be greater this year. The TGM Board believes that it would be in the interest of our guests to expand the evening coverage this year by an additional month.”
Each evening homeless guests will check in at the TGM site at 290 W. Olive between 5:00 – 6:00 PM, prior to departure for a local church that will be providing housing for the week. TGM has been providing a nightly Meal Ministry since January 14, 2008, and will continue to provide for those in need as room allows. At the end of the meal those not staying overnight will be transported back to our building for check-out.
