Turlock Gospel Mission Offers Winter Relief II

The Turlock Gospel Mission (TGM) announced it will seek to provide overnight winter shelter to women and children once again this year. The anticipated start date is Sunday November 15, 2009, continuing through April 4, 2010. TGM is working with local churches, civic clubs, and private citizens to provide a safe place to stay overnight for women & children in need. Warm meals, a biblical message of hope and shelter will be provided each night during the coldest part of Turlock’s winter season.

TGM offered Winter Relief to families last year from December 14-April 5. Executive Director Jeff Woods said, “Last winter we served 2,900 evening meals for men, women and children and provided 684 overnight accommodations for 32 unduplicated women and children. With the economy being what it is, the need may be greater this year. The TGM Board believes that it would be in the interest of our guests to expand the evening coverage this year by an additional month.”

Each evening homeless guests will check in at the TGM site at 290 W. Olive between 5:00 – 6:00 PM, prior to departure for a local church that will be providing housing for the week. TGM has been providing a nightly Meal Ministry since January 14, 2008, and will continue to provide for those in need as room allows. At the end of the meal those not staying overnight will be transported back to our building for check-out.

TGM was formed in early 2007 with the Vision of restoring homeless and hurting people in

Turlock, offering them spiritual, personal and community resources that will enable them to become fruitful members of society. TGM receives no local, state or federal funding. It is totally supported by gifts from the community.

Board Member Pat Shade said, “We are very thankful for what the community has provided and this important step will continue to need financial support to make it possible.” (Contributions can be sent to Turlock Gospel Mission, P.O. Box 1231, Turlock, CA95381.) In addition, volunteers with Class B Passenger-Endorsed licenses are also needed both evenings and mornings to help transport our guests between TGM and the church site where they will be housed.

Current TGM Board members are Derik Bakker, Bill Fagan, Chris Kiriakou, Lori Mast, and Pat Shade.
