Turlock School District Board To Talk Common Core Funding

The Turlock Unified School District Board of Trustees will discuss funding the transition to Common Core Standards, providing textbooks, and positive student behavior during its meeting on Tuesday.

The agenda is light, but will include a vote by the board to adopt an official spending plan for $2.75 million in one-time state funding to implement and transition to Common Core State Standards. The funds will be used to provide training for teachers and staff, the purchase of standards-aligned instructional materials, and technology and infrastructure upgrades.
Also, the board will likely approve the Statement of Assurance for Fiscal Year 2013-14, ensuring all students in the district have the necessary textbooks and instructional materials in each academic subject.

On the consent calendar, the board will vote to approve numerous personal service contracts for school plays and physical education opportunities for students at eCademy Charter.

The meeting will open with an inspiration from Turlock High School student Ken Beard, who is this month’s character counts award recipient for responsibility, and a presentation from Dr. Michale Elium regarding the district’s Positive Behavior Support training program.

The Turlock Unified School District Board of Trustees will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, in the Professional Development Center, 1100 Cahill Ave., Turlock.
